Lamborghini's first electric car will be an all-new four-seat crossover, launching in 2028, followed by the all-electric second-generation Urus SUV.President and CEO of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann, has said the company’s first electric car will be radically different to that of any of their previous models.According to him, the first electric car will have increased ground clearance than a normal vehicle. Everything from the body style, volumes and pricing, will be decided this year and development will begin by the end of the year. One important decision the Italian brand must make is whether to grow the platform or purchase it from the enormous conglomerate to which it belongs. The first Lamborghini electric car is believed to be based on an improved version of Audi's Artemis platform, which is currently in development. It has to be modified because the platform will be used starting in 2024 with the launch of the all-electric A8. In today's automotive market, a four-year gap is too long to use a platform without making improvements. The pure-electric, second-generation Urus will make its global debut about a year after the electric crossover. The next Urus, according to Winkelmann, will be "a completely different car" with no petrol variant. To stay relevant until its replacement arrives in 2029, the present Urus is likely to experience considerable changes to its appearance, both on the outside and interior, as well as its powertrain. The first-generation Urus will be hybridised in 2024, like the successors of the Aventador and Huracan, after Lambo launches its first hybrid supercar in 2023.
